At that point, a missing active-substance identifier, an inconsistent certificate of analysis, or an unclear manufacturing address can turn a low-cost purchase into held inventory, rejected goods, and a difficult dispute over responsibility.

A supplier specification should show more than a headline assay. The right parameters depend on whether the material will be formulated, diluted, applied directly, or used as an intermediate.
Ask which properties are tested on every production batch and which are type-test values. A value described as “typical” should not be treated as a contractual acceptance limit. It may describe historical performance without guaranteeing that every batch falls inside that range.
A meaningful COA should include a unique batch or lot number, testing date, product name, measured results, units, specification limits, and an identifiable issuer. Where the material is technically sensitive, ask about the laboratory method used for the critical attribute. The SDS should correspond to the exact product and formulation offered. Review the product identifier, composition information, hazard classification, transport information, recommended personal protective equipment, storage conditions, and emergency measures. The monitoring stage is where supplier claims become measurable in ordinary operations.
