Wanhua Chemical released its third-quarter 2026 report and key operating data on October 27, reporting that polyurethane product prices generally moved higher during the quarter, despite fluctuations. Pure MDI averaged approximately RMB 21,200 per tonne, with gradually recovering end-user demand and rising crude oil prices cited as drivers of the price trend.

Average market prices for polymeric MDI, TDI and flexible foam polyether were approximately RMB 17,000, RMB 16,800 and RMB 10,000 per tonne, respectively. These figures describe quarterly market averages; they should not be read as quarter-end quotations or the company's realized selling prices.

The combination of improving demand and higher oil prices matters when interpreting the increase. Recovering demand can support sales conditions, while rising feedstock costs can add pressure to pricing. Higher product prices alone therefore do not establish that producers' margins expanded: the outcome also depends on how selling prices move relative to costs.

For downstream buyers, a sustained increase could first affect the cost of new orders and replenishing inventories. The timing and extent of that impact would depend on purchase arrangements and how much material buyers already hold. Quarterly averages provide context for procurement discussions, but do not establish the price of an individual transaction.

Wanhua also reported a substantial increase in earnings for the first nine months of 2026, consistent with an improvement in industry conditions. That earnings performance and the third-quarter price trend support a more positive reading of the market, although the nine-month result should not be attributed entirely to price movements in a single quarter.

The durability of the recovery will depend on whether end-user demand continues to strengthen and whether product prices keep pace with input costs. Subsequent company disclosures on pricing, sales volumes and profitability would help show how far the stronger market conditions translate into sustained earnings growth.
