EU Revises Maximum Residue Limits for Acequinocyl and Five Other Pesticides

EU maximum residue limits for acequinocyl and five other pesticides are changing. Explore affected products, revised limits and key compliance checks for EU market access.

On October 16, 2026, the European Commission published Regulation (EU) 2026/2289, revising maximum residue limits (MRLs) for six pesticides in certain products. The substances covered are acequinocyl, deltamethrin, dodine, maleic hydrazide, prothioconazole and pinoxaden. The regulation enters into force on the twentieth day following its publication.

The practical significance lies in the specific pesticide–product combinations covered by the amendments. A revision does not, by itself, mean that every limit has been lowered or that all products associated with these substances face the same change. Compliance assessments therefore need to focus on the relevant product and its revised limit.

For businesses supplying affected products to the EU market, the changes may prompt a review of residue specifications, supplier documentation and testing priorities. Where a limit is lowered, existing residue controls may need closer examination; where a limit is raised or otherwise adjusted, the implications will differ. The direction and scale of each amendment matter more than the number of pesticides included.

The immediate focus is on identifying which products are covered and how their limits change. Entry into force is also distinct from any specific application or transitional arrangements: businesses assessing shipment compliance should check the relevant provisions rather than assume that the stated entry-into-force period resolves every timing question. Any wider effect on sourcing or product availability will depend on the individual amendments and the residue profiles of affected supplies.
